What kind of appliances do you need to make hand made coffee

Time:2020-07-24 10:18 Number of hits:
Hand brewed coffee is a coffee brewing method that has taken the world by storm, and it is also the first choice for many coffee lovers to make coffee at home. Hand-made coffee only needs to continuously pour hot water into coffee powder to get clean coffee. Regardless of the simplicity of the process, there is a lot of knowledge in it, such as the water temperature, the grinding degree of coffee powder, the ratio of coffee powder to water, and the water droplets of the hand-made pot The intensity of the coffee has a great influence on the flavor of coffee.

"Workers must first sharpen their tools if they want to do their jobs well." Let's take a look at the tools needed to make a cup of hand-made coffee.

    Necessary equipment:

    1. Hand-punched filter cup, filter paper,

hand-pushed filter cup is used to place coffee powder, use hot water to pour coffee powder and filter through filter paper to obtain coffee liquid. When using different filter cups for hand-punching, even the same coffee beans will have different flavors.

The more common filter cups are: Hario V60 cone filter cup, KONO cone filter cup, Kalita fan filter cup, Origami cake filter cup and so on.

    2. Hand brewed coffee pot

Hand brewed coffee pot determines the strength and thickness of the water for brewing coffee, and has a great influence on the extraction rate and concentration of coffee. Common hand-punch pots include thin-mouth pots (Hario V60, Shizuku, Kalita), crane-billed pots (Yukiwa, Kalita), gooseneck pots (Bonavita, Fellow) and so on.

The slender pot and gooseneck pot have a slower water output and a smaller water column, which is easier to operate and suitable for beginners. Crane-billed pots are difficult to operate. The water column can be large or small, strong or weak, suitable for lifters.

    3. Coffee sharing pot The

coffee sharing pot is mainly used to hold coffee. But matching with the corresponding filter cup can also improve the flavor and aroma of the coffee to a certain extent, so it is recommended to choose a set of the same brand as the filter cup.

    4. Electronic scale (timeable)

When making hand brewed coffee, a time-keeping electronic scale is very important, preferably with an accuracy of 0.1g. Whether it is the steaming stage or the brewing stage, you can intuitively see the brewing time and the amount of water injected, which is convenient for data-based measurement of coffee brewing methods and subsequent flavor improvement programs.

    5. Thermometer (or hand brewing pot with temperature display)

determines the flavor of hand brewed coffee. Water temperature is one of them. Different temperatures have a great influence on coffee flavor. So it is very important to have a thermometer, or to choose a hand pot with a temperature display. Usually the water temperature of hand brewed coffee is between 88-94℃. The deeper the roast, the lower the water temperature required.

    6. Coffee beans/coffee powder

are necessary for making hand-made coffee. The characteristic of hand brewed coffee is that it reflects the layering of the coffee. Freshly roasted coffee beans (coffee beans within 1 month from the roasting date) are recommended.

    Optional appliances:

    1. Coffee concentration meter

Coffee concentration meter belongs to "fever appliance". The extraction rate of coffee determines how much flavor is in the coffee beans, and the concentration determines the taste intensity of this cup of coffee. By measuring the concentration of the brewed coffee, the extraction rate of the coffee is calculated, combined with the final coffee tasting, for data recording and adjustment.

    2. Hand-punch holder The

hand-punch holder separates the coffee filter cup from the coffee sharing pot, which will look better overall. But in fact, there are still some drawbacks: the separation of the filter cup and the sharing pot, the final determination of the standard for the amount of brewing water will be based on the sharing pot, so you need to pay attention to the amount of water in the filter cup at the end of the brewing period to avoid excessive The coffee flavor is too weak.

    3. Water quality measuring pen

At least 98% of a cup of coffee is water, so the quality of water is very important. A water quality measuring pen can help you detect and adjust (add chemicals) the hardness, TDS value, etc. of water.

The water quality standard suitable for making coffee is:

    pH value: between 6-8.

    PPM value: 125ppm-175ppm.

    Hardness: about 60 mg/L.

    4. Bean grinder

household can choose a hand-cranked bean grinder, using freshly roasted coffee beans to make fresh. Freshly ground coffee has a very good aroma, which is far from instant coffee.

    5. Coffee powder tank/cup

coffee powder tank is used to weigh coffee beans and place coffee powder.

6.No matter what kind of grinder is used in the coffee sifter , the coffee powder particles will always be of different sizes. This is because the density and size of the coffee beans are different. The coffee sifter can help to sift out the fine powder, thereby making the coffee taste cleaner, but at the same time it will also lose some mellowness.

    7. Coffee bean spoon

Mainly used to dig coffee beans and coffee powder.

    8. The

outer packaging of the coffee beans in the sealed can is damaged or there is no sealing valve, or if you want to store the coffee beans in a refrigerator or other places, you can choose to use a sealed can, which is moisture-proof and sun-proof as well as light and heat, so as to retain the aroma of coffee to the greatest extent.

Whether you are making a cup of coffee at home or in a cafe, in order to have a better coffee flavor, in addition to choosing high-quality coffee beans, a variety of utensils are essential. Therefore, hand brewing coffee is also called the "most ritual" coffee brewing method.

When making hand-made coffee, tens of milliliters of hot water, a slightly higher water temperature of 2-3°C, a few grams of coffee powder, and slightly larger water in the hand-made coffee pot will seriously affect the final coffee taste. Therefore, the more utensils made, the more accurate the brewing data can be controlled, and the better conditions for brewing good coffee.
